WELCOME TO BOARDING AT TIGER KLOOF

NOTICE: Prospective boarders must first be accepted in the school before they can get space the boarding house (Grade 8 to 12). Please indicate on the application form whether your child will be a boarder or day scholar. The Tiger Kloof boarding house is funded and governed by the institution and NOT the Department of Education. Bursaries are available ONLY for underprivileged children. 

 

We have been offering boarding for Grade 8 to 12 learners for almost a quarter of a century ever since Tiger Kloof re-opened its doors in 1995. Tiger Kloof Combined School is one of the leading educational institutions in the North West Province of South Africa. We strive to make all learners feel at home away from home. The school boarding houses (Chiepe – girls and Mogwe - boys) provides a safe and secure environment for each individual. The boarding houses are fenced off and we have 24hr security monitoring the area. Our mission is to create a spiritual and disciplined environment which will be conducive to learning and character building for each individual child.

 

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM BOARDING AT TIGER KLOOF:

  • Boarders are supported by committed and experienced boarding staff. Staff live on the property together with the children and provide them with guidance and daily support

  • There is a variety of weekend and extra-curricular activities

  • All learners attend prep on a daily basis

  • All boarders sign the code of conduct of the Tiger Kloof boarding house

  • Boarding school encourages independence, respect for others in a communal-style living space and builds self-confidence

  • Balanced and nutritious meals are served in the dining hall on a daily basis. We also cater for vegetarians and learners with special dietary requirements

  • The school tuck-shop is open during break and after school for a couple of minutes only on week days

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

A school counsellor visits the school in the first week and last week of each term. Tiger Kloof provides transport to those who need to see a doctor in town.

Laptops tablets and cell phones are allowed; however, learners must adhere to the boarding house policy relating to their use and security.

We also have a common room with a television set for each of the houses.

Learners provide their own linen and bedding and there is a daily laundry service for school uniform only. Learners are expected to keep their rooms tidy at all times and to adhere to the code of conduct of the boarding house.

Visitors are not allowed during the week. Parents may visit their children on weekends. Boarders should bring along all they will need for the term as we do not provide town trips. No boarder may go home on weekends without written consent from their parents / guardians.

We also have learners from Botswana in the boarding house and most of our boarders are from the North West Province

HEAD OF BOARDING AT TIGER KLOOF - Ms Puseletso Leonora Baatlhodi


Introduction
Ms Leonora Baatlhodi serves as the head of boarding at Tiger Kloof Educational Institution. Her extensive experience in education and student management has prepared her well for this role. She has a history of teaching Mathematics at Tiger Kloof and managing the Boys Hostel before her current appointment.

 

Professional Background
Ms Baatlhodi's career in education began with her role as a Mathematics teacher at Tiger Kloof. Her aptitude for leadership and student welfare quickly saw her take on the additional responsibility of a boarding manager in the Boys Hostel. In this capacity, she developed a keen understanding of the needs and dynamics of boarding students.


Prior to her appointment as head of boarding, Ms Baatlhodi worked at the local Department of Basic Education, where she gained valuable insights into educational policies and administration.


Current Role
At the beginning of 2024, Ms Baatlhodi was appointed as the head of boarding at Tiger Kloof. She oversees the welfare of approximately 180 boys and girls, working closely with six boarding managers. Her leadership is pivotal in ensuring a safe, nurturing and structured environment for the boarding students.

The head of boarding plays a crucial role in the well-being and development of students in a boarding school setting. Key responsibilities include:


1.    Student Welfare: Ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all boarding students.
2.    Discipline and Structure: Implementing and maintaining a structured environment that promotes discipline and academic excellence.
3.    Support and Guidance: Providing support and guidance to both students and boarding managers, fostering a positive community.
4.    Communication: Acting as a liaison between the school administration, parents and students to address any issues or concerns promptly.
5.    Development Programs: Organizing activities and programmes that contribute to the holistic development of students.
